KFAS commences the call for nominations for 2018 Kuwait Prize in four fields

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) is now accepting nominations from universities, scientific and research institutions and individuals – in Kuwait and abroad – for the 2018 cycle of the Kuwait Prize, awarded by KFAS in four fields, worth KD 40,000 each. The fields for the award for the current year are:

Fundamental Sciences, focusing this year on Biological Sciences, including but not limited to cellular and molecular biology, developmental biology, heredity and epigenetics, microbiology and immunology.

The second field is Applied Sciences under the theme of Clean and Sustainable Energy Technologies, involving the topics of renewable sources, hydrogen, fuel cells, energy storage devices, biomass and lower carbon-footprints fossil fuel.

Third is Economics and Social Sciences devoted this year to Economics covering the subjects of energy economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and development economics.

The fourth category is Arts and Literature, under which falls the Studies of Arabic Language and Literature, including but not limited to Arabic grammar and linguistics as well as classic and modern literary studies.

With the deadline for sending nominations set for 30 June 2018, KFAS emphasizes that nominees must be individuals of an Arab nationality, having achieved work that is innovative and significant in the fields. The work also must have been published during the past twenty years, whether in papers published or accepted for publication in refereed journals and books with an ISSN number.

The Foundation further indicates that it would accept nominations from universities, academic and research institutions and scientific centers, as well as former laureates of the prize. Nominations submitted by political bodies are not acceptable.

Institutions and individuals wishing to send nominations are invited to fill in the nomination form and send it along with the submitted work online. The nomination form can be obtained from KFAS' official website (www.kfas.org). It should be noted that the nomination form for Fundamental Sciences and Applied Sciences fields should be submitted in English language.

Submissions should be sent in PDF format only, either through sending a flash drive with the necessary documents to KFAS' address in Kuwait or through cloud storage sites, such as (Google Drive–Dropbox–OneDrive) with sending the link to KFAS' Prizes Office email: prize@kfas.org.kw.
