For the Scientific & Research Community

We aim to enhance research and development in Kuwait by funding carefully selected scientific research proposals and building the capacity of the research community. We also celebrate scientific achievements by awarding various prizes to Kuwaiti and Arab scientists worldwide. Furthermore, We collaborate with renowned international institutions to facilitate cooperation with local scientists and researchers.

Our strategic partnerships with prestigious academic and research institutions around the world are designed for the benefit of young researchers, business leaders and senior decision makers in both the private and public sectors. These partnerships provide opportunities to understand, manage and implement a culture of science, technology and innovation and adopting a culture based on knowledge within Kuwaiti institutions and corporations.

International Centre for Theoretical Physics

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) provides scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills they need to enjoy long, productive careers. The ICTP continues to be a driving force for global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world and operates under the aegis of two United Nations agencies: the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The program has four components: support for scientists from Arab countries to attend ICTP Scientific Calendar activities, a Postgraduate Diploma Program, a Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Abdus Salam Lectureship.

  • The Kuwait Program at ICTP offers support to cover travel expenses and a daily living allowance for Arab scientists to attend the numerous conferences, schools and workshops organized each year by the ICTP through its Scientific Calendar. This support covers a period not exceeding one month of their stay for the activity. Applicants should indicate their interest in taking part in the fellowship when using the ICTP's online application system for Scientific Calendar activities. Choose an activity by viewing ICTP's Scientific Calendar.
  • The ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma Program is an intensive 12-month pre-doctoral education program for talented young science students from the developing world who have limited possibility of pursuing advanced studies in their home countries. Three Arab students are chosen following a competitive selection process and are given support by the Kuwait Program to attend the course. Applicants from Arab countries who are accepted into the Diploma Program are considered for a KFAS grant.
  • The Postdoctoral Fellowship is awarded to a young Arab postdoctoral scientist working in Kuwait, with priority to Kuwaiti scientists. The fellowship allows this scientist to continue their research for up to 12 months in the ICTP’s areas of expertise, under the supervision of a resident scientist at the center.
  • Abdus Salam Lectureship is a weeklong lectureship given by renowned active scientists reviewing important research developments.
